Colorism

Stop Colorism

Colorism needs to be stopped in our world because of what it can do to a person in a negative way. We need to allure Americans to stop making others feel bad because of their skin color. Just because a person is lighter skinned than another doesn’t mean they should be alienated from another is aloof from social activities such as dancing, singing, and playing games.

Colorism and Me

I never really had any personal experience with Colorism. The first time I‘ve actually noticed Colorism and knew what it is in Summer Bridge English Class. After learning what Colorism was I begin to abhor it even though it was abstruse at first. I noticed Colorism in my life when one person tells the other that they are mad black. Some people compare others to colors such as yellow, red, white, black, tan, pink. Some people in the world have an affinity to light skin people because they are alluring to them.

What is Colorism?

Colorism is a form of discrimination in which human beings are afforded different social treatment based on skin color. Colorism usually refers to when lighter skin tones are preferred and darker skin is considered less desirable or vice versa. The aftermath of lighter skin tones being more preferred than darker skin tones is that darker skin people to be aloof and can cause altercations between lighter skinned and darker skinned people. Colorism has been going on around the world for hundreds of years. Colorism started with whites enslaving African-Americans and making African-Americans think that long straight hair and lighter skin tones was more alluring than nappy hair and darker skin tones. Colorism is changing in the world and is making people feel alienated which is destroying social treatment because of skin color.
